I'm looking for a new wheel for Assetto Corsa since the current Thrustmaster wheel that I use has a rotation of less than 180 degrees. Anyway I have been looking into a Logitech G25 or G27 but I don't know if there is a difference in FFB with the G25. I also need to decide quick since the G27 is currently at less than $250...

And gulf livery Pantera

G27 is supposed to have slightly smoother action, and more buttons on wheel. Shifter is 6 speed only, rather than the 6 speed with a sequential mode of the G25 shifter, but this means the 6 speed has better feel.

I have a G27, which I understood to be an upgrade and replacement for the obsoleted G25. (Is it even still possible to get a new G25?) I've heard the FFB is cleaner on the G27 because they use helical gears and two FFB motors, whereas the G25 had maybe only one of those features but not the other. Again, hazy knowledge.

I have a G25 that I've used more maybe 20 hours total before I realized that I didn't have the time to invest in getting really good at iRacing. Make me an offer and I can ship it out on Monday. (Out of town right now) It's essentially brand new.

How about $140? I am really tempted to get one considering that they are the price of a the Driving Force GT wheels.

From what I have seen the G27 and G25 both have 2 motors but anyway were the paddles any good on them?

Oh ok thanks for sharing but do you know if you can use a Fanatec shifter with it since it is also a 6 speed and sequential.

I only have experience with the G27, but the paddles are perfectly adequate. The only thing I kind of wish is that the paddles were fixed to the dash (or steering column) instead of turning with the wheel, but that's just me. I know it's a minority configuration. When you go past 180º, the up/down shift sides get all messed up in your head.

G27 all the way if you wanna have a reliable wheel + pedals + shifter and faster lap times (from the report of Inside Sim Racing). There are greater options out there, but for starters and money wise a G27 will do it's job properly. Also...don't give up on your first drives with the wheel. Going from 180 to 900 degree is pretty harsh for the first weeks but then it's great. I had too much friends (called themselves great drivers) that tried it out wanted to break the damn thing because they felt that it was too hard to control the cars with while it was fine to me, or friend that bought them and sold them 3 months after because it was too hard for them. Back in the days, most games didn't support 900 degrees so that could explain it...but I didn't see much difference over the years.

Also have you tried it with windows 8 since that is what my pc is currently running.

Same thing with my wheel but I was asking because the little buttons on the back of the DFGT are supposed to be paddles...

Well if I get my current wheel sold for hopefully are $200 then I will probably fork up the rest and just get a G27 but if it doesn't sell then I'm probably going to get a G25 since I am more into drifting than hot lapping. As long as the wheel works and has 900 degrees then I'm happy... I am surprised I haven't gone insane from trying to play race sims with nearly 4x sensitivity.

Oh, gosh, no! The G27 paddles are aluminum crescents. Very solid and grippable. You can see them behind the wheel on either side in this picture (found online).

$140 + Shipping and it's a deal. I don't know if it works with Windows 8, I honestly haven't used it in 3 years.

Do you mean the CSS, or the lesser Fanatec shifters? The lesser ones plug into a Fanatec wheel so are no go, but the CSS can be used ON PC ONLY with an extra adapter Fanatec sells. No way to directly connect to the wheel in any case, though.

I'd offer you my G27, but I'm still using the shifter off it until my CSS SQ comes in.

Sounds good, I found that it does work with Windows 8. I might be able to buy it around the 19th or 20th. Anyway if it has been sitting for that long can you please make sure it works or post a video or something.

I'm also a drifter. I got a g25 and I broke my shifter by modding it to make it more realistic. The shifter was kinda filmsy and I wasn't the only one with issues so that's why I said to go get a g27 and don't look back. You could get a used one for cheap on craigslist or kijiji. You gonna have fun drifting with it...but as I said, going from 180 to 900 is harsh. You'll have to learn everything all over and it took me 9 months to get back to the level that I was when I switched in LFS.

Well theres nothing but Microsoft wheels on my local craigslist but since I seem to have found a good G25 (In this post) for $140. I am thinking about getting one of the Fanatec shifters for it as well. But yes going from 180 to 900 is going to be a huge step up but I have seen a few tutorials so hopefully I will suck less than I do with this wheel.

Why don't you use the shifter of the g25? Issues like the one I mentioned?

Both work fine, I have a G25 in my rig and there's a brand new G27 sitting at school waiting to be put in an FSAE chassis to make another rig.

Main difference is the G27 is quieter and turning is just a bit smoother due to the helical gears, but really if you can get a G25 for a lot cheaper that would work.

Either shifter will work, the G25 one has a spring detent whereas I don't know what the G27 has, but due to dropping sequential support the G27 shifter has a heavier feel.

Also, no one has mentioned it, but you can run any Logitech wheel at significantly less than 900-degrees. I typically run 400-degrees and occasionally 450-degrees, only time I run 900 is when running HistoriX in rFactor 'cause there's a FFB setup that combined with 900-degrees feels absolutely fantastic.

I believe I did the same mod as you, but luckily, I didn't break it.

The "weak point" of the G25 shifter was the wiring getting undone, quite a few people on a server I frequented had the issue, someone figured it out and posted his guide on the forum (the original forum got lost from a mistake at the host).

It should work with Windows 8 fine, as long as you got the drivers.

THIS! This killed my shifter! I tried to resolder the small ass wires but I failed and broke a potentiometer in the process.

Well I am getting it for much cheaper than a G27 so I will spend the rest on either a new shifter or pedals. Also, with Fanatec wheels they have different presets so I was wondering if you can have different setups saved with the wheel.

Have you looked at Fanatec's Porsche 911 GT3 RS wheel?

I have but from what I hear there are a few issues with it and its pretty expensive with pedals and a shifter.

True true, I kinda forgot about the issues. Get the G25 and enjoy the shifter in the meanwhile. Get a Fanatec shifter (or a more robust one since there's a lot of other options out there) if you feel that the shifter is about to give up.

Get a Nixim mod for the G25 pedals, and IMO the stock shifter is fine, get the pedal mods and be sure to bolt down the pedal box and you will love them.

I believw you can have different wheel presets in the profiler, may need to look into it more to be sure.

Do the pedals have any treads on the bottom since I will playing on carpet.

It has a tooth strip, I would recommend getting a bit of gaff or carpet tape to help hold the front edge down, it really makes a difference
